Bristol Print Collective

On a Roll- 10am-4pm

Come and help Bristol Print Collective carve a large-scale linocut on Sunday they will be printing the block with a heavy-duty roller where you can get involved with the inking process. Alongside the large scale block you can also drop by their project space to create your own wonderful relief prints using their pre-carved lino cuts. Suitable for all ages and abilities… just drop in, roll up, and print! – Family friendly

Fabulous Fables with Peter Ursem

Artist and writer, Peter Ursem, is preparing the publication of fourty new ‘friendly fables’, animal stories full of wisdom and wit to make you slow your pace. On request, Peter will read you a fable of your choice, but… you’ll have to pay for it with a mono-print to be made on the spot. Family friendly. 10-11:30am.

Landscape in lino print: simple, dramatic, mindblowing  – a talk with Peter Ursem

Dutch-born artist Peter Ursem was gripped by lino printing when he moved to the UK 25 years ago. Since then he has won several awards and is now well known for his poetic and colourful landscape prints. In this presentation, Peter will describe his fascination with this simple yet dramatic technique and how he achieves the rich layering in his lino prints. 12-1pm.

Truth Wall/Print Your Action with Alan Qualtrough

Produce and install your own letterpress-printed posters to be displayed in the courtyard of Ocean Studios. All day drop in.

Techno-Heritage Printmaking with Matt Holmes

Matt Holmes will be transplanting his work and practice into the Ocean Studios café space, where it will form an “open studio installation”, consisting of a mixture of static displays and live demonstrations in an open working space. Matt’s practice forms a link between modern digital technology and heritage craft practices. He has taken the traditional processes of letterpress printmaking, and remediated them with new techniques such as 3D printing. All day drop in.

Monoprinting on Clay with Tweeny Van Mierlo

Bring two artistic practices together at this fun taster workshop. Have a go at monoprinting on clay!

Fragments in Landscape- Workshop with Sarah Gregory

A relaxed and informal activity where you will have the opportunity to create an image using ink and roller. We will explore mark making, layering and techniques to build interest and depth within the image. 10am-4pm.

From Landscape to Print  – Talk with Anita Renyolds 

Anita shares how she combines printmaking with working and walking in the landscape. She talks about her large scale projects past and present and how her outdoor and studio practice have merged. 2-3pm.

Print your patch workshop with Ismay Berncastle

Learn the basics of lino cutting and use your new skills to create unique sew-on patches to bring new life to your old clothes. Be guided by an experienced printmaker to help you make some great patches to take home, and have fun while you do it! 10-11am, 11am-12pm, 2-3pm, 3-4pm.

Minski, an handmade and upcycled fashion brand is joining forces with The Original Fruitcakes as part of Print in Action Festival, bringing together a creative fashion show with a selection of bold screen printed garments. 5-6pm.

Print in the Dome– Print in Action Digital Gallery

Down the road in Devonport, Market Hall is home to a state-of-the-art immersive dome! To celebrate Print in Action 2022, we will be hosting a digital gallery of circular prints that have been transformed to create a new fulldome experience. Come along to be truly immersed in the beauty of printmaking. Different time slots available. Book here.

The Car Parks Project Exhibition- Leadworks, 170 Rendle Street

An exhibition celebrating Plymouth’s multi-storey car parks – free and open to all. The show will explore, document and celebrate the significance of the concrete multi story car parks of Plymouth, through the physical features and cultural value that is embedded in these often maligned or overlooked examples of radical design. The show includes soundscapes, photographic images and original hand altered photopolymer prints. 10am-4pm.

Add-on Master Classes

Linocut monoprints: an insight into relief print painterly abstract monotypes – Masterclass with Simon Ripley, Double Elephant at Arts University Plymouth

Simon Ripley will demonstrate his idiosyncratic way of using wood and linocut to make painterly, highly textured abstract monoprints. He will make a print to demonstrate the process and discuss his approach to printmaking. Simon will print by hand onto Japanese papers layering wet inks in a spontaneous and reactive approach to the print process.
