The Barbican Theatre has come up with something rather unique this spring which involves people taking part in a Sports Day with a twist.
The Shore Challenge is a first for the UK and follows the model of Undokai, a Japanese style sports day involving fun, silly family friendly/community friendly games. Undokai is a Japanese community sports day. They are an important cultural activity in Japan that has run for over 150 years. Future Undokai adapts the traditional concept to meet today’s needs.
There are a number of dates and opportunities to get involved in the project including:
- ‘Play and Test’ days on Feb 11th and March 11th (both 11am-1pm)
- Traditional Undokai (a ‘normal’ Japanese Sports Day) Sat 15th and Sun 16th April
- The Main Event: Sun 23rd April (there’s opps to get involved and develop tech-based games on the 21st/22nd April too)
