Real Ideas would like to welcome Ocean Studios based Member Nikki Taylor back to her studio F.29.

After various lockdowns, working from home and material shortages, Nikki is now looking to create and welcome the public into her studio, where visitors will be able to see her latest projects and commissions in the making.

Nikki is going to be at Ocean Studios every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 12-5pm.

“I have always been drawn to the human form and themes of energy and connection.” says Nikki. “I trained at Wimbledon School of Art, under Allan Sly one of the country’s foremost sculptors and gained a honours degree, specialising in portraiture and life sculpture working in clay for casting in bronze.

After starting my career in bronze portraiture, I became mesmerised by the way the physicality of the human form is used to express the subtlety of human spirit and personality.  This gave rise to my quest to find a material which expressed this.  After much experimentation, I found the magic of woven wire mesh.

Bringing my skills from traditional clay portraiture to bear, I was commissioned to produce life-size mesh sculptures for the 2012 London Olympics.  Tom Daley and former sprinter Jason Gardener OBE both posed for me .  Subsequent commissions have included a wire mesh portrait of The Emir of Kuwait and 2 life-size figures for the band Bastille for their World Wide World Tour.

I continue to accept commissions of all kinds in mesh and also create wire mesh torso’s. My lifesize figures are weatherproof.

I work in Ocean Studios, studio F29 (upstairs).  I am in the studio from 12-5pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.  However ring if you are making a special trip. Happy to meet by appointment otherwise.”
