Sue Lewry is a printmaker-artist whose interdisciplinary practice explores materiality, testing and experimenting, crossing digital and traditional thresholds to exploit the agile art form of printmaking in both social engagement and a solo practice. She is currently a print residency holder at Ocean Studios and has some exciting workshops coming up for you to get involved in!

We chatted to Sue to find out more about her art and what she’s currently working on.

“Scale and labour are an essential part of my work. My paper and textile-based processes also include woodwork and doll-making inspired by the photomontage artist Hannah Hoch.

I’m currently developing my e-commerce business and mobile screen-printing practice Colossal to sustain a living and fine art printmaking practice. I’m working on a regular print commission with Plymouth Design Forum, a project with painter and printmaker Vivienne Spencer reproducing screen-print derived from her original paintings. I’m also preparing for my residency at Ocean Studios and an exhibition in September!”

This summer, Sue is hosting two fun workshops. On 24th August you can join her Interactive Screen Printing with Colossal (Sue’s very own portable printing press) and on 17th September, she will be hosting a Live Making session, where you can learn about her exhibition and get involved with interactive screen printing! Previous attendees have said Sue’s “energy and enthusiasm is infectious” and have described Colossal as “colourful, playful and conversational.” Both of these events are available to book by clicking the links above.

Sue is also currently raising money for her project, Colossal, so that she can continue to innovate and deliver printmaking experiences, reaching a wider audience and involving communities. If you’d like to donate to or share her Crowdfunder, click here.
