In need of a little Motivation? Look no further… Some of the brilliant Game Changer participants have been working hard to pursue their career goals!
Two Game Changer participants have recently secured jobs working for the Department of Work and Pensions, processing Universal Credit applications and providing vital support for those who are out of work and needing financial support in these unprecedented times. Both participants have had positive journeys on the programme and were delighted to have progressed positively into employment but also to be at the forefront of a service that is helping people through life-changing times.
Jade lives in a very remote part of Cornwall and has a desire to run her own bespoke cake making business. Her journey on the programme has involved a lot of searching and determination to get to where she is now. Jade explored the possibility of starting her own business just as the pandemic started, suddenly her chosen sector was hit with no possibility of work experience or jobs whatsoever. Jade was left with little options so she decided to start looking at ways to upskill herself instead. She practised several new recipes and completed a Food and Hygiene course in the hope that when things returned to normal, she would be in a good place once she could start applying for jobs again. Her determination enabled her to get her CV and applications to a place where she felt happy and she then started to apply for jobs, Within a week she had an interview for a Commis Chef job at a local restaurant and as she demonstrated her passion for baking her first month will be working with the pastry chef!
Another Game Changer participant, Elle, has used the equipment funded by Game Changer to create a number of products that are now ready to go on sale. Amazingly, Elle is now in a position to open her very own Etsy shop, showcasing her products. She is hoping it will be the start of something and is looking forward to packaging the first orders soon. She again highlights that even during a pandemic, if you have the aptitude, drive, and the opportunity to thrive, you can achieve a huge amount.
Kyle is another Game Changer participant who has dealt with a tough situation to come out the other side in a positive way. Kyle had a work trial lined up at C-Space in Newquay in March but unfortunately, that had to be paused due to the pandemic. He has since volunteered in his community supporting others less fortunate than him. Kyle has always been dedicated to helping others so it was great when he finally struck some luck and secured a KP job role in Newquay. After his first shift they liked him so much he is now been promoted to front of house!
