Papatango are an award-winning theatre company working with young people in London and the South West of England through their creative learning and professional development programme, GoWrite.
Designed to give young people a taste of both playwriting and professional theatre-making, their ‘Writing a Monologue’ workshops for Key Stage 3 to 5 / 11-19 year olds not only complement the Drama and English curriculum but also develop skills and confidence in creative writing and thinking, self-expression and collaboration, empowering young people to explore the issues and topics that are meaningful to them and to tell their own stories.
Participants write their own short monologues using a variety of playwriting and devising techniques, have their plays published as printed playtexts with a copy for each participant to take home, and see their plays performed in a rehearsed reading on screen by professional actors.
The workshops are led by professional theatre-makers with a passion for sharing their experience and knowledge with young people. Paptango provide a comprehensive Toolkit in advance, which includes workshops plans, worksheets and other supporting materials.
The programme is currently open to state schools, SEND schools and Pupil Referral Units in Swindon, Gloucester, Bristol and North Somerset. Supported by Arts Council England, it is completely free of charge to participating organisations.
For further details, or to book the workshops for your school, please contact Sarah Parkes, Education Officer, at participate@papatango.co.uk or visit www.papatango.co.uk/gowrite.
“The session was fab, simply fab! It was an incredibly worthwhile experience for the students.” (Teacher)
“The sessions are invaluable. You are enabling young people who are often told that they have no creative talent to see what potential as storytellers lies within them.” (Teacher)
