Tickets are now available for the Print in Action arts festival which takes place 21-23 October.
Co-ordinated by Real Ideas, it will be a culmination of six months of Print in Action activities designed to showcase a variety of print techniques and celebrate print in all its inspiring forms.
The festival will comprise exhibitions, workshops, music, food, talks and masterclasses with the opportunity to connect with like-minded print creatives across Plymouth and beyond.
It is the first time there has been a collaborative focus on printmaking and showcasing city-wide talent across the area. Venues to host the festival are: Ocean Studios at Royal William Yard; The Printery, Mutley Plain; The Craft House, near The Barbican; and the Arts University, Tavistock Place.
Francesca Hawkesworth, programme co-ordinator, at Real Ideas explains: “This festival showcases our thriving print community across Plymouth and introduces the community of Plymouth to printmaking in all its art forms. It is an opportunity for adults who may not have an artistic background to explore their creativity, while learning a new skill, and we also hope to inspire younger generations to pick up an apron and get inky.”
The schedule of workshops and masterclasses are being finalised, but for those interested in exploring printmaking, there are still opportunities to get involved at Ocean Studios with Beth Munro and Sue Lewry.
Workshops with Beth Munro, 1 September to 3 October
Beth Munro reflects her interest in the natural world through a variety of print techniques, and will hold print workshops on 1 September and 3 October to learn new skills in Linocut, Mono-printing, Collagraphy and Dry Point. Beth’s workshops are suitable for beginners or those seeking help and advice with existing projects.
She also has an open studio every day from 10am, where visitors can drop in to find out more about printmaking, gain inspiration and browse some of her works.
Junior Intro to Print
On the last Sunday of every month, Beth Munro will hold junior workshops, where children aged from 5-11 can explore their creativity with collage and texture in a safe environment.
Printing with Sue Lewry
17 September to 2 October: Sue Lewry uses traditional and digital methods in print-making at Ocean Studios. She will be offering behind-the-scenes access to her print and production techniques on 17 September as well as gaining an understanding of her work, from inspiration to production at an exhibition on 20 September. Visitors will also have an opportunity to get hands on with screen printing on 2 October.
