Real Ideas has been a deliverer and advocate for Arts Award since its launch in 2005. We are proud to be an Arts Award Supporter, offering opportunities for young people to access high quality arts and cultural experiences that can help them to work towards their Arts Award journey. Our spaces, in particular Ocean Studios and the Market Hall, provide inspiring environments packed with exciting events and workshops for all.
Open to everyone, Ocean Studios hosts a wide range of creative workshops and events for all ages. From Pottery to Print there’s something for everyone! Our studios have specialist equipment, accessed via our membership, giving artists the chance to access the tools they need to improve their creative practice. Our workshops open up this space for resident artists to share their talents and teach others, why not book a workshop and pick up a new skill? All of these activities can be used as evidence to support your Arts Award at different levels.
Home to an awe-inspiring 15m immersive dome, the first of its kind in Europe – the Market Hall offers experiences at the cutting edge of immersive tech. Open to everyone, and with a wide range of events and experiences for all the family, the dome invites you to explore immersive realities without the need for a VR headset. The Market hall also offers educational immersive experiences and workshops for all ages and abilities, many of which can be used to evidence creative practice for Arts Award.

Discover
Part A: Discover – take part in a range of arts activities in order to widen experience and understanding of the arts. Young people can experience a range of art forms in our buildings and by attending our shows. By taking part in a workshop they will also fulfil the requirement to participate in at least one arts activity.
Part B: Find out – Find out about artists and their work in order to develop understanding of arts practice. By attending one of our artist led workshops, young people will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the artist leading the activity and their work.
Explore
Part A: Inspire – take part in a range of arts activities in order to extend experience and understanding of the arts and develop arts skills. By attending our workshops, young people will have the opportunity to take part in one or more arts activities.
Part B: Explore – explore the work of artists and arts organisations through live or active experience. Young people are welcome to come to our buildings and speak to any member of our host teams to find out about the work that we do. By attending our artist led workshops, young people will also have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the artist(s) leading the activity and their work.
Bronze
Part A: Explore the arts as a participant – develop interest, knowledge and skills in a creative arts activity through active participation. By attending one of our artist led workshops, young people will have the opportunity to take part in an arts activity.
Part B: Explore the arts as an audience member – experience at least one arts event as an audience member. We have a range of shows and exhibitions in our buildings which young people can attend as audience members.
Part C: Arts inspiration – use simple research methods to find out about an artist/craftsperson or arts practitioner who inspires them. By attending one of our artist led workshops, young people will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the artist leading the activity and their work.
Silver
Unit 1 Part C: arts pathways – experience and review at least one arts event. We have a range of shows and exhibitions in our buildings which young people can attend as audience members.
Unit 1 Part D: arts pathways – find out more about the arts through meeting and working alongside arts practitioners. Through research into arts organisations, find out what is available to them and how to become more involved, whether as a participant or an audience member. Young people are welcome to come to our buildings and speak to any member of our host teams to find out about the work that we do. By attending our artist led workshops, young people will also have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the artist(s) leading the activity and their work.
Gold
Unit 1 Part C: research advanced practitioners and review arts events – research more advanced arts practitioners within an art form, genre or arts practice undertaken elsewhere in their Gold Arts Award by exploring career paths, work and where applicable the organisations that support them. Includes researching their work, interviewing them or others involved with their work and attending and reviewing a range of relevant arts events. Young people can book onto a range of events and workshops from our programme where they will have access to meet and work with artists in a range of creative disciplines to support them in growing their network. By joining us as a paid member, young people can use the co-working spaces across our campus, in particular Ocean Studios which is the perfect location for those looking to explore and improve their creative practice and network with other artists and makers.
