About the Artist: Suzanne Drummond

Why Printmaking:

For me I find that I revel in the process, using the screen as much as any other tool within the art making process. Taking my image, reworking it and then developing it further by manipulating the screen, then producing a unique piece of art.

Tell us about your practice:

I have found that my love of architecture, particularly Brutalist concrete buildings have been really influential in my work.

Finding pattern and form that appear to me out of the light and shadow from these angular buildings has piqued a fascination for me. It has developed through my work, producing dynamic balanced geometric and graphic art works. My colour palette comes from everything from peeling paint to the soft colours of seaside towns.

Throughout the residency I feel that my practice has become more refined and clearer in its direction. I work on both paper and textiles, with a small amount being on naturally dyed fabric.

Who’s your favourite Print-maker:

I really love Hugh Dunford – Wood, his hand (foot) printed lino print wallpapers are amazing. His love of hand printing has meant that he has continually lino printed wallpapers since the 70’s.

What’s next?

2022 will be bringing more craft fairs further afield, Exeter, St Ives and Pop up shops in Plymouth and Totnes, alongside more opportunities to sell my work through independent stores.
