Mothers Day Introduction to Fused Glass

Ocean Studios Performing & Visual Arts
Mother’s Day Introduction to Fused Glass

In this 3 hour course you will make a beautiful spring-inspired fused glass picture which can also make a lovely Mother’s Day present. Guided by professional glass artist and tutor, Annette Daly, you will learn and practise skills such as how to cut glass and will introduced to some of the techniques and effects of fusing glass as well as how to choose the best type of glass or accessory for different effects. You will have time to draw and plan your piece which will be a medium-sized spring scene such as a flower meadow or landscape or you may decide to make a spring-inspired abstract piece, let your imagination run wild! Or you could make several smaller pieces if you prefer.

Using top quality coloured Bullseye sheet glass as well as accessory glass such as ground glass (frit), stringer, and some pre-fired accents, some of which are unique to Annette Daly glass, you will make a stunning scene in glass. Your piece will look beautiful framed or hung in a sunny or well-lit spot or it can be curved to be free-standing or you can also purchase a beautiful oak stand at the class for your piece. Fused glass also makes a wonderful present for someone special. Annette Daly, a professional glass maker and tutor will be on hand to give you demonstrations, advice and guidance to help bring your idea to life in glass.

Running in the stunning Grade 1 listed Royal William Yard, this course is suitable for both beginners and those with some previous experience of glass. This course is suitable for adults and children aged 12+, however younger children who have previously done a glass taster course (either with Annette or elsewhere) will be considered if accompanied by an adult. Please contact Annette to discuss before booking children younger than 12 years on this course.

Don’t worry if you are not particularly arty, fused glass is a very forgiving medium and even people who don’t consider themselves ‘arty’ can get fantastic results on this introductory course. There will also be examples and ideas to give you inspiration. Refreshments (tea, coffee and cake) are provided on this course to help keep your creative juices flowing.

Your glass picture will be fired in a specialist glass kiln after the course and will be available to collect from Ocean Studios a few days later or it can be posted to you (postage costs are not included in the course fee but are charged at cost).

The course will be run in a small group to ensure lots of individual attention. The course will run subject to a minimum number of people attending. If less than the minimum sign up to this workshop, you will be offered the chance to transfer to another session or will be offered a full refund of the course fee.

Booking is essential. Gift vouchers (valid for a year and redeemable against all courses) are also available and make fantastic presents. If you have an Annette Daly Glass voucher that you would like to redeem as full or part-payment against this course, please contact Annette directly to reserve your space.

Next Steps– You may wish to make some fused glass jewellery next (Annette offers a variety of fused glass jewellery courses from short tasters to advanced workshops) or you could sign up to a full day or multi-part workshop to make larger and more complex pieces which are not possible in a single session. Be warned glass can be quite an addictive medium to work with!
