Introduction to fused glass: Queen’s Jubilee glass bunting
This year, our Queen Elizabeth II has become the first British monarch ever to achieve a Platinum Jubilee.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, we are running some extra-special Queen’s Jubilee themed workshops. In this 3 hour course you will make some special fused glass bunting to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Your bunting could be royal or British-themed or more personal or abstract but whichever style you choose, it will look beautiful hanging in a sunny window during the Jubilee week (or during any other celebration!).
In this 3 hour workshop, you will learn and practise skills such as how to cut glass and will be introduced to some of the techniques and effects of fusing glass.
You will also learn how to choose the best type of glass or accessory for different effects. You will have time to draw and plan your piece which will be a set of 6 flags which will be strung on a piece of bunting when fired.
Using quality coloured Bullseye sheet glass as well as accessory glass such as ground glass (frit), stringer, and some pre-fired accents and letters, you will make a stunning, unique string of glass bunting.
Your bunting will look beautiful hung in a sunny or well-lit spot and could also make a wonderful present for someone special.
Annette Daly, a professional glass maker and tutor will be on hand to give you demonstrations, advice and guidance to help bring your ideas to life in glass.
This course is suitable for both beginners and those with some previous experience of glass. This course is suitable for adults and children aged 12+, however younger children who have previously done a glass taster course (either with Annette or elsewhere) will be considered. Please contact Annette to discuss before booking children younger than 12 years on this course.
Don’t worry if you are not particularly arty, fused glass is a very forgiving medium and even people who don’t consider themselves ‘arty’ can get fantastic results on this introductory course. There will also be examples and ideas to give you inspiration.
Refreshments (tea, coffee and cake) are provided on this course to help keep your creative juices flowing.
Your glass bunting flags will be kiln-fired after the course and will be available to collect from Ocean Studios about a week later or they can be posted to you (postage costs are not included in the course fee but are charged at cost).
The course will be run in a small group of no more than 6 people to ensure lots of individual attention. The course will run subject to a minimum of 3 people attending. If less than 3 people sign up to this workshop, you will be offered the chance to transfer to another session or will be offered a full refund of the course fee.
Venue: Photography studio.
