Introduction
to Fused Glass Jewellery
With Real Ideas Member, Ocean Studios resident Annette Daly
If you love stunning glass jewellery, this is the class for you!In this 3 hour introductory class led by professional glass artist and tutor, Annette Daly, you will learn how to make beautiful fused glass jewellery such as pendants, earrings and brooches. The design possibilities and colour combinations are almost unlimited so you can choose to make some pieces in your favourite colours for yourself or make some special pieces as gifts for friends and family.
Running in the stunning Grade 1 listed Royal William Yard, this course is open to beginners as well as those who have some fused glass experience. You will learn the basics of simple glass jewellery design and will have some time to plan your pieces on paper before learning and practising skills such as cutting and grinding the glass components for your pieces. You will use top quality Bullseye glass and accessory glass such as stringer, nuggets and frit (ground glass) to make your totally unique, individual pieces.Depending on how intricate your pieces are, you can expect to make several sets of jewellery during this class.
After the class your pieces will be fired in a special glass kiln and will be ready to collect in about a week from Ocean Studios or they can be posted to you (postage costs are not included in the class fee but are charged at cost).
A selection of basic jewellery findings (components) to finish your pieces are included in the course price and additional findings can be purchased at the class or from a list of recommended specialist suppliers. You will be given guidance on how to use the findings to finish and transform your pieces into wearable jewellery when you get them back after the class.
This course is suitable for adults and children aged 12+.Occasionally, younger children who have previously done a glass taster course (either with Annette or elsewhere) and who are very keen will be considered if accompanied by an adult. Please contact Annette to discuss before booking children younger than 12 years on this course and bear in mind that all children (under 18) will need adult help to glue and assemble their pieces after the course as the strong glue required for gluing the jewellery is only suitable for use by adults.
Don’t worry if you are not particularly arty, fused glass is a very forgiving medium and even people who don’t consider themselves ‘arty’ can get fantastic results on this introductory course. There will also be examples and ideas to give you inspiration and get you started.Refreshments (tea, coffee and cake) are provided on this course to help keep your creative juices flowing.
The course will be run in a small group of no more than 6 people to ensure lots of individual attention. The course will run subject to a minimum of 3 people attending. If less than 3 people sign up to this workshop, you will be offered the chance to transfer to another session or will be offered a full refund of the course fee.
Venue:Please enter through the Ocean Studios café and sign in with one of the hosts at the café counter there. They will direct you up to the workshop venue on the first floor. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the workshop is due to start.
