Fused Glass Jewellery Taster

Ocean Studios Performing & Visual Arts
Fused Glass Taster Workshop with Annette Daly

In this short taster course you will have a chance to make your own fused glass jewellery. The design possibilities are endless! You could make some jewellery in your favourite colours to complement an outfit or you could make a unique and thoughtful piece of jewellery for a special person. Fused glass jewellery also makes a wonderful Mother’s day present which lasts a lot longer than a bouquet of flowers! Your tutor is professional glass artist and tutor, Annette Daly who has been working with fused and lampwork glass for many years and has had a studio at Ocean Studios since its inception in 2015.

This course is open to beginners as well as those who have some fused glass experience. Annette will give you a brief introduction to the materials and explain how to make and assemble your pieces. No cutting is required for this short course although Annette will demonstrate cutting and you can have a go at this fun skill if you would like (the longer 3 hour + courses also offered by Annette concentrate more on cutting and other more advanced skills). You will have some time to plan and draw your pieces before making and assembling them.

The glass and accessory glass used in this class is all Bullseye glass from the USA, a top quality glass which is widely regarded as the best fusing glass range in the world. Annette also makes additional accessory glass such as hand-pulled stringer for you to use on your pieces, some of which is unique to her classes.

During this class you will have the chance to make up to 2 pendants and a pair of earrings or 3 pendants and the class price also includes the basic findings (silver plated bails for the pendants and earrings and surgical steel earring hooks). If you prefer, the findings can be upgraded to sterling silver findings for a small additional fee. You will be given guidance on how to use the findings to finish and transform your pieces into wearable jewellery when you get them back after the class.

Following the course, your jewellery pieces will be fired by Annette in a specialist glass kiln and will be available to collect a week to 10 days after the course from Ocean Studios or they can be posted to you for around £5. You can let Annette know which option you would prefer at the course.

Run in a stunning Grade 1 listed building in Royal William Yard, this course is suitable for both adults and children (from 5 years +) and no previous experience of glass is required. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. (Accompanying adults can either book their own space and make their own jewellery or come along for free and just supervise their child/children).

The course will be run in a small group to ensure lots of individual attention and is subject to a minimum number of people attending. If less than the minimum number sign up to this workshop, you will be offered the chance to transfer to another session or will be offered a full refund of the course fee.
