This year, our Queen Elizabeth II has become the first British monarch ever to achieve a Platinum Jubilee.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, we are running some extra-special Queen’s Jubilee themed workshops.
In this 1 ¼ hour fused glass taster session, you will make a unique set of fridge magnets inspired by the special occasion of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee using top-quality, coloured glass.
You will use pre-cut glass, coloured glass granules, stringer, letters and other glass accessories to make a set of 4 beautiful fridge magnets which you can use yourself or give to someone as a special gift.
Your glass fridge magnets might directly represent a royal theme or you may choose to do something more abstract. Each one can be a mini-picture on its own or you can have a continuous theme running through your set.
Annette Daly, a professional glass maker and tutor will be on hand to give you demonstrations, advice and guidance to help bring your ideas to life in glass.
Although glass cutting is not required for this short session, if you want to learn how to cut glass, Annette will give a demonstration and you can have a go at this fun skill.
This course is suitable for both adults and children (from 5 years +) and no previous experience of glass is required. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. (Accompanying adults can either book their own space and make their own glass picture or come along for free and just supervise their child/children).
Don’t worry if you are not particularly arty, fused glass is a very forgiving medium and even people who don’t consider themselves ‘arty’ can get fantastic results on this taster course. There will also be examples and ideas to give you inspiration.
The course fee includes 4 magnets, each approximately 5cm x 3 ½ cm. If you have time and would like to make more magnets, you can pay £5 per additional glass magnet that you make.
Your glass pieces will be kiln-fired after the course before the magnets are added and will be available to collect from Ocean Studios about a week later or they can be posted to you (postage costs are not included in the course fee but are charged at cost).
The course will be run in a small group of no more than 8 people to ensure lots of individual attention. The course will run subject to a minimum of 3 people attending. If less than 3 people sign up to this workshop, you will be offered the chance to transfer to another session or will be offered a full refund of the course fee.
Venue: Photography Studio – enter through the Ocean Studios café and sign in with one of the hosts at the café counter there.
Please try to arrive at least 5-10 minutes before the workshop is due to start.
Booking is essential.
