Eat Soup, Have Fun, Change Stuff

SOUP is a micro granting dinner, designed to bring people together to have fun and support projects that benefit the local area and its communities.

Established in Detroit in 2010, the SOUP model is a powerful tool to start conversations, practice democracy and fund new projects/people/ideas in our neighbourhood, community or city. SOUP is a brilliant way to redevelop, reorganise and reimagine where we live – the projects that get funded are up to the community!

We have run SOUPs in a variety of places around Devon and Cornwall, hearing pitches from a huge variety of projects; from an app for mindfulness to an orchestra; from helping people with autism/aspergers to combating high levels of food waste.

£5 gets you soup, salad, bread and a vote.

At the SOUP dinner there will be four presentations on projects centred around a theme.

Each presenter has 4 minutes to share their idea – no technology allowed!

Audience members can ask each presenter up to 4 questions after their presentation.

After the presentations, audience members are encouraged to discuss and debate before voting.

Audience members then vote on what project they think will benefit the town, city or neighbourhood the most.

Whichever presenter gets the most votes wins all the money collected at the door to get their idea off the ground plus the allocated enabling fund, fund.

Winners come back to a future SOUP event to share what their project has achieved and the impact it has had.

I'm really glad I took the time to participate in Liskeard SOUP... if you're ever free on a micro grant giving dinner like Liskeard SOUP, I'd heartily recommend getting yourself out to one too!
