RIO welcomes new social enterprise supporting girls’ education in Africa

RIO has welcomed the launch of a new social enterprise, set up to support girls in Africa to secure a better education.

Founded by Claire Blackburn and Matt Lill, the social enterprise they’ve called ‘Auntie Daisy’ will offer a mail order tampon and sanitary towel delivery service and working in partnership with UK-based charity Camfed, will donate 100% of profits to help girls in Africa reach their full potential.

The launch of Auntie Daisy is in direct response to a situation witnessed by founder Claire Blackburn when living and working in Tanzania where girls often didn’t go to school during their period. Seeing girls miss up to a week of their schooling every month seemed incredibly unfair to Claire, so Auntie Daisy was born, out of her belief that a period should never get in the way of a good education and that all girls should have the right to go to school.
