Young people in Plymouth can still sign up to take part in a Creative Approaches learning programme, which focuses on exploring career paths within the creative industries. They will also be able to gain a qualification, thanks to this new course being launched by the Real Ideas Organisation (RIO).
The new Creative Approaches course will start soon at Devonport Guildhall. The course is FREE to join and is open to young people in the city aged 16-18 years old.
The Creative Approaches course is different because it is practical – so young people will learn by doing. They will also meet real people in the creative industries and get experience working on real projects, particularly around promoting a creative arts event. Course participants will also gain a Level 1 qualification in Work Preparation to the Creative Industries.
Kate Rowlands, RIO said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who has an interest in getting creative. “The aim of the course is to provide young people with a practical insight into the industry; to be exposed to the wide range of job roles within it and enable them to have a better idea of the career path they would like to go on to pursue. The work experience element is key and means that learners come away with something to talk about on their CV’s and in future interviews – something this age group often have trouble finding. At RIO we like to provide young people with real experiences which have a real purpose, allowing them to realise their own potential and pave their own futures.”
RIO will deliver enterprise and employability skills and also help young people develop their team working and enhance their CV.
It is hoped young people graduating from the Creative Approaches course will either find work in the creative industries, or go on to further education.
