By 6th October 2015 No Comments

Using social enterprise to demonstrate the school’s commitment to learning and development through the Urban Enterprise programme

Location:

Marine Academy, Plymouth

Date:

March – June 2015

The challenge:

Create and present a viable social enterprise that fits with their school style and connects with their purpose, whilst making the most of the school’s facilities.

The RIO solution: RIO Consultants worked with the students to create the social enterprise for their school.

We took them on a 5 step challenge based learning process, creating opportunities for the students to develop, present and test new social enterprise ideas.

  • Carry out audit of social enterprise opportunities
  • Challenge Days used to explore interests, aptitudes and passions and develop ideas for social enterprise
  • work with the Year 12 students to develop an Events Management company to design and run a launch event for the school, local community and businesses
  • The school’s ‘Super Summer Showcase’ event also made it into the Plymouth Herald, demonstrating the hard work of the students to turn their ideas into a reality
  • Engage community and launch concept of social enterprise in schools
  • Evaluate and develop new opportunities and relationships for Marine Academy Plymouth and the new enterprise to explore and establish
  • The students got to work with Marketing Agency Actuate to design materials and create a marketing plan for the event

Reyhannon McMichael, Year 12 student from Marine Academy Plymouth

“It was new, something I wouldn’t have thought of doing – a real experience.”
