Young people gain event management experience through Creative Traineeship programme
Seven Creative Media students from City College Plymouth took part in a 12 week creative traineeship with Real Ideas Organisation where they would gain practical work experience in events management alongside gaining a Bronze Arts Award and employability skills.
The students aged between 16-21 years were set the challenge of putting on the next ‘Column Acoustic’ music event that is held regularly at Devonport Guildhall as part of their creative traineeship. The young people were given full responsibility for the event; from booking and confirming acts, writing the press release and promoting the event to the actual running of the event on the night itself.
The community event is there for local performers to come and showcase their talent for free in return for positive promotion whilst raising money for a good cause. This month the young people decided that the good cause would go to All Ways Apples festival; a local family event that is held at Devonport Guildhall at the end of October which promotes healthy eating and positive activities linked to eating apples.
The group worked hard to promote the event, getting a mention in the local Plymouth Herald newspaper. You can read the full story in The Herald here. They also asked local businesses to donate prizes for their raffle in support of the event. The group’s efforts managed to raise a fantastic £250 for the good cause which is a fantastic achievement!
Their hard-earned efforts were rewarded as the post-event write up also made it in to the Plymouth Herald, with an emphasis on their successful day!
