An update from Column Bakehouse

UPDATED (24.03.2020):

Due to the most recent government guidance the UK is now locked down which means all of us should stay at home except for very specific reasons – shopping for basic necessities, daily exercise, any medical need and travelling to and from absolutely essential work.

As a result we are now closing all of our buildings until further notice. Rest assured we will keep updated with Government guidance and reopen to our community, tenants, guests and friends just as soon as it is safe to do so. Please keep an eye out on our social channels for future updates.

Till then please take good care of yourself and your loved ones; stay home, save lives and protect the NHS.

All updates about our cafés and buildings will be shared on our:

  • Column Bakehouse website
  • Column Bakehouse Twitter, Facebook and Instagram channels
  • Real Ideas Twitter and Facebook channels

These are unprecedented times and we are following all the guidance and making the best decisions we can, in everyone’s interest.  We hope to reopen cafés as soon as it is safe to do so.

Till then take very good care of yourselves and your loved ones, from all the team at Real Ideas

Plymouth’s first and only social enterprise bakery

Specialising in sourdough and artisan breads, we believe that great quality wholesome bread is something to be enjoyed every day, by everyone.

Produced using fresh, locally sourced ingredients wherever possible, our award-winning breads are baked in-house, with absolutely no nasties.

Being a social enterprise it’s our mission to do more and give back, that’s why we reinvest all profits into providing more opportunities for local people – by way of apprenticeships, jobs and opportunities to gain experience.

Simply put, good bread does good – for you, your family, for everyone.

With two stunning locations in Plymouth, you can visit our original Café and kitchen at Devonport Guildhall and our Café at Ocean Studios, Royal William Yard.

Social enterprise baking

As a social enterprise Column Bakehouse invests all profits back into offering opportunities for local people and is always open to engaging with more members of our local community to share the health and well-being benefits of baking.

Contact us if we can help bring artisan bread, baking skills or yummy treats to your community, group or event.

Where it all began

Developed by RIO in 2013 transforming the old Mortuary space in Devonport Guildhall into an artisan kitchen, Column Bakehouse quickly established itself as a destination for lovers of artisan bread and high quality baked goods. The original Café and kitchen in Devonport Guildhall remains popular as ever and was joined by a new Café and Stores at Ocean Studios, Royal William Yard in July 2017.
