The 2014 Western Morning News Business Awards saw Real Ideas Organisation’s Column Bakehouse, based at Devonport Guildhall, shortlisted for Best Business Startup, and the awards ceremony took place on the evening of Thursday 20th November in Exeter. The artisan bakery won their category, amongst some very tough competition from digital creative company Elixel and Cornwall-based jeweler Bloody Mary Metal.
Some representatives from RIO attended the ceremony. Claire Burgess, Commercial Manager for Devonport Guildhall, was presented with the award. She said,
“We are extremely proud to receive the award for Best Start-up at the WMN Business Awards, in what was an incredibly strong category.”
“This recognition comes at a very exciting time for Column Bakehouse, having also just received support from Plymouth City Council’s Social Enterprise Investment Fund to grow both our production capacity and training offer.”
“We’d like to thank the Western Morning News and the judges for this award which supports our continued investment in Devonport and our commitment to providing quality business, local produce and training through Social Enterprise.”
Column Bakehouse officially opened as an artisan bakery only last year, and has seen a steadily growing customer base, as their fresh artisan bread and other food entice customers from Plymouth and further afield.
