The government plans to expand several enterprise zones as well as creating two new enterprise zones, in an announcement that went out recently.
One of the new zones to be created is Plymouth, which is great news for the city, and testament to the growing successful social enterprise sector in this area.
Chancellor George Osborne promised to support the network of enterprise zones. He stated,
“We are confirming the introduction of the first 20 housing zones that will keep Britain building, along with the extension of eight enterprise zones across Britain, with new zones in Plymouth and Blackpool too.”
RIO’s CEO Lindsey Hall welcomes the announcement. She said,
” Plymouth’s new Enterprise Zone in Devonport is very welcome, particularly as it builds on the strength of the marine and renewables sectors in the area. As the Market Hall transforms into a cutting edge digital flagship, there are myriad opportunities to work together and realise the potential for creating exciting jobs and growth. A classic example of enterprise and social enterprise working together.”
