Young Promoters is a new approach to increasing the participation of young people in the arts.
The programme gives young people in rural areas the chance to have their say about what gets put on in their community and the opportunity to get directly involved in the selection, promotion and production of it.
Young Promoters has a number of aims: to give young people the chance to choose what they want to see and get involved in promoting it, to inject fresh energy into rural touring theatre and to create a whole new audience demographic in the process. Working closely with rural touring theatre organisation Carn to Cove in the first instance, Young Promoters will give young people the opportunity to join village hall selection committees and support them through the process of choosing, promoting and hosting a touring theatre production.
Not only will young people get the chance to learn new skills as part of Young Promoters, they’ll also be able to boost their CV with it, gaining accreditation for their work through Arts Awards. It’s the first time in Cornwall that Arts Awards will be offered outside of a school context and will be a great opportunity for the Young Promoters team to add value to their experience.
Funding has been secured through the FEAST programme and through Paul Hamlyn to pilot Young Promoters and the goal is to help young people develop promotion companies in their own areas while also building a model that can be rolled out elsewhere.
