Social Enterprise Qualification: Award Structure

BRONZE Social Enterprise Qualification:

Introduces social enterprise as a means for change; running a one off market stall or event to raise money for a social cause.

Bronze is divided into 3 units:
Unit 1) Young Researcher
Unit 2) Young Innovator
Unit 3) Young Change-maker  

Bronze takes approximately 30 hours to complete - 20 guided learning hours, and 10 individual learning hours.


SILVER Social Enterprise Qualification:

Taking a significant role within a group to run a mini social enterprise within a community based market; a short series of income generating activities, or a time limited enterprise. The enterprise will reinvest profits to continue to provide a social service, or donate profit from product sales to a social cause.

Silver is divided into 3 units:
Unit 1) Researcher
Unit 2) Innovation challenge
Unit 3) Change-maker

Silver takes approximately 50 hours to complete – 35 guided learning hours, and 15 individual learning hours.


A pilot for the Gold qualification will follow. This will involve:

-    Developing a potentially sustainable social enterprise for a wider market
-    Leading a team
-    Identifying a business mentor
-    Real links to existing social enterprises
-    Good understanding of legal framework you are operating in
-    Taking a viewpoint – looking at a current or historical issue within business ethics
