Real Coastal Connections
Shoal, the connected coastal club from the Real Ideas Organisation, is a membership based network of coastal schools, organisations and businesses from around the world. Our members all share a connection to the coast and a passion for the marine environment.
Through curriculum support, a bank of marine experts, teaching and learning resources and an interactive website, Shoal supports members to explore practical and creative ways to make the most of their marine and coastal environment.
But that’s not all. By being part of Shoal, members are linked into the Shoal network, linking up with other members from around the world to share experiences and work together on marine and coastal campaigns.
Shoal has grown out of RIO’s highly successful Sea4Life programme which, over the last two years, has helped more than 2000 young people and 170 teachers to really make a difference in how they view and use their local coastal environment.
By Joining Shoal, you’ll:

-Have access to excellent classroom support materials and resources, including Shoal Beach Kits for your class.
- Get a profile spot on www.realideas.org/shoal, a user friendly online space for your school which you can update with news and blogs on your marine and coastal activity.
- Have access to the Shoal bank of approved marine experts. As part of your membership, Shoal can act as consultants for any marine expertise needed.
- Receive regular updates on Shoal activities and relevant marine and coastal news from around the world.
-Get access to global events, competitions and campaigns, as well as a VIP invitation to Shoal’s annual award ceremony which celebrates innovation and excellence in marine and coastal education.
