RIO: International

RIO is looking for international partners who share our ideals and have a passion and drive for social change.

Here is just some of our work globally:

China

Following on from a range of in-depth study visits to China, supported by both the British Council and the UK Trade and Investments’ Export Marketing Research Scheme, we are progressing a number of work areas:

China Children and Teenagers Fund

An exciting collaboration with the China Children and Teenagers Fund, one of China’s oldest and most established charities. We are excited about this one – so watch this space.

Language learning and resources

Dan Dan Wang is pulling together a comprehensive package of Mandarin and Chinese culture lessons and learning resources. Developed over 2 years in partnership with schools in Plymouth and Jiaxing, China, they will be available soon with modules from early years to business professional.

Social enterprise book

We are currently exploring the idea of producing a UK/Chinese publication on social enterprise in partnership with Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The publication is currently in its research phase, and its production will be part of a unique collaboration between UK and Chinese students.

Europe

European Regions of Culture – Cornwall, Poland, Finland

The European Regions of Culture Campaign is working with partners in Cornwall, Poland and Finland to connect and celebrate European rural culture. Their ambition is to make the case for a new designation like the European Capitals of Culture for rural areas. A series of pilot residencies will take place this year linking the three areas exploring a range of key themes, with associate partners in Bulgaria, Eire, Italy and Denmark.

RIO has recruited a team of five young people in Cornwall who will investigate a young person’s perspective in all three of the regions, sharing their findings online and at the final event in November. Their work will inform and frame the longer term engagement of young people in the campaign across the European regions. Follow their progress and discussions on their blog
