Cultivate is a brand new, ground up approach to rural youth provision. It works in areas where there is an identified need, seeking out young people between 13-19 and working with them to identify and develop activity they will engage with. By connecting with local organisations, agencies and professionals Cultivate helps young people access cultural, creative and artistic activities in the way that they want to, helping them take ownership and make real change happen in their communities.
What comes out of Cultivate is down to the young people; if they want to set up a regular break dancing group, build and run a skatepark or simply create a safe social meeting place where they can talk about their ideas with someone who’ll listen they can. Cultivate encourages young people to become directly involved, link in with local talent and knowledge, and trigger changes in themselves, their community and the perception of young people.
By undertaking an 18 month pilot of Cultivate we have been able to test and develop the approach, iron out the creases and address the challenges to create something that really works.
